Wedgwood Blue Jasperware
A Wedgwood blue jasperware framed plaque with white bas-reliefs of Apotheosis Of Virgil modelled by John Flaxman Jnr 1786.
Virgil stands on a podium holding a manuscript, on the right a figure in flight places a wreath on his head and a seated female observing the scene is holding a salpinx (a trumpet like instrument), helmet and spear. On the left a winged figure in flight is holding a wreath and a female figure is playing a lyre.
The frame measures approximately 11 1/2 inches by 10 inches and the plaque measures approximately 5 3/4 inches by 4 inches impressed on the back Wedgwood made in England and the numbers 76.
The plaque has been previously owned in very good condition and is first quality, there is a couple of marks to the frame as shown in the photograph.
