The America's Cup is a sailing competition and the oldest international competition still operating in any sport. America's Cup match races are held between two sailing yachts: one from the yacht club that currently holds the trophy (known as the defender) and the other from the yacht club that is challenging for the cup (the challenger). The display plate measures approximately 6 1/2 inches in diameter and is stamped ''Wedgwood Made in England' on the back. In gold writing on the back of the plate it reads "The America's Cup Defence Plate - A Limited Edition issued to commemorate the Defence of the America's Cup in Western Australia 1986-1987".
The plate is first quality and is in very good condition.
