Wedgwood Pink Jasperware
A Wedgwood pink jasperware plaque depicting a lucky "Hina Matsuri" scene.
"Hina Matsuri" is an ancient traditional celebration in Japan where ornate dolls representing an Emperor and Empress are sat on top of several platforms. The dolls were believed to absorb bad spirits and luck. They were then cast down stream and into the sea, discharging all the bad lack away from the doll's owners. Many now believe the dolls bring good luck rather than carry away bad luck, so they are often kept in pristine condition, year after year.
The plaque measures approximately 7 1/4 inches in diameter, is first quality and in excellent condition.
