Wedgwood Blue Jasperware
This Christmas plate was issued by Wedgwood to celebrate the Tenth Anniversary of the inauguration of their pale blue and white Jasper Christmas plate series.
The 1969 Wedgwood Christmas plate was the first item to be made by an English ceramic company in commemoration of the Christian festival. Each year the pale blue Jasper plate has been decorated with a white Jasper bas-relief of a famous landmark in or close to London: and the design has always incorporated an embossed date motif and relief border of holly leaves.
This Christmas plate (diameter 9 1/4 inches) is in pale blue Jasper with finely modelled bas-relief ornaments in white Jasper. Windsor Castle - the subject of the 1969 Christmas plate - is in the centre encircled by a holly wreath in white Jasper. Around the border are cameos of the nine landmarks featured on the Christmas plates for the years 1970 to 1978, framed by swags of holly.
In order of annual issue they are: Windsor Castle, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, St. Paul’s Cathedral, The Tower of London, The Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge, Hampton Court, Westminster Abbey and Horse Guards in Whitehall.
The plate is first quality, it is in very good condition and is impressed "Wedgwood Made in England" on the back.
